Active participation of Tatars in the social-political and cultural life of Turkestan became noticeable in the second half of the 19th century. At that period, along with the jadididsm ideas, the art of “European theatre,” which was a novelty for the region peoples, appeared in Turkestan. It was introduced by Tatar theatrical troupes which organized showing of literary works on their own or with assistance of the local intelligentsia. Earnihngs from those shows were contributed to charity or were used to support education. Development of the theatrical art in the cultural life of Turkestan peoples in a short period of time played a significant role in the development of their cultural ties with Tatar englighteners and mutually enriching cooperation.
