The purpose of the journal is to publish studies that address new research methods and results, which stimulate further development of historical ethnology in Russia and bordering countries as an independent research area, which is closely connected with allied historical, ethnographic, cultural, anthropological, and sociological disciplines. The journal is a unique venue where the new standards of historical-ethnological research in the Eurasian space are formed. It has a substantial potential to enhance international cooperation in the given scientific field. It publishes reviews of academic literature related to relevant historical-ethnological studies.
The research perspectives of the journal focus on ethnophor, ethnos, and ethnic communities, which are analysed with regard to historical transformation.
The journal provides an opportunity of publications and discussions for a wide circle of specialists in ethnoarcheology, ethnography, ethnolinguistics, archival science, museum studies, social/cultural anthropology, regional studies, religious studies, ethnosociology, ethnopsychology, ethnopedagogy and other academic disciplines, which contribute to the enrichment of historical and ethnological knowledge. The focus lies on research and methodological studies regarding the development of historical ethnology as a uniting mechanism of different historical and social directions in the humanities. High priority is given to new data on ethnic history, culture genesis and the traditional culture of Eurasian peoples, including contemporary structures and institutes for functioning of the ethnic in the process of ethnic communities’ adaptation to external influences.
The journal has been published since 2016 with the purpose to present the latest studies in the history of the ethnic culture of the Turkic world. Theoretical historical-ethnological comprehension of the development of Turkic ethnic communities encouraged the editorial team to expand the ethnic geography. The new position of the journal consists in the necessity to include into the research area all peoples of the Eurasian space – Slavic-Russian, Finno-Ugric, Turkic-Mongolian, with their historically developed close and multidimensional contacts.
The Historical Ethnology journal implements open access policy. Users have access to the full text version of the journal free of charge.
Open access to the journal’s archive is available on its website http://historicalethnology.org and on the platform of the Scientific Electronic Library www.elibrary.ru.

The journal does not charge any fees for submission, editing, and publication. Author’s fees are not offered.
All the articles published in the journal undergo a check for the level of originality and the amount of borrowed fragments using the Antiplagiat automated detection systems.
Online First policy
The editors of the journal Historical Ethnology are pleased to offer authors an opportunity to post open access articles prior to their publication in a finalised issue of the Historical Ethnology journal. Online First articles can be cited using DOI. Any final changes will be made to the final version of the article in the published issue of Historical Ethnology.
All articles posted in the Online First section have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in the journal Historical Ethnology in the same format in which they are posted.
As soon as an article from the Online First feature is published in the planned issue of the journal Historical Ethnology and receives all bibliographic data: year of publication, volume, number, page numbers, permanent link, access to it will be possible from the archive of the journal Historical Ethnology, and not from the Online First page.
Online First is the final version of the article accepted for publication, which cannot be changed during the publication process and cannot be withdrawn. What distinguishes the Online First article from the traditional published format is the absence of fixed page numbers and no linkage to a specific issue of the journal. In order for Online First articles to be cited correctly, it is necessary to assign them a DOI.
If mistakes are found in the Online First article that require correction, the author must send a request to make changes to the text of the article, a comment about the corresponding change must be included in the information about the article.
Advantages of posting Online First articles:
– providing access to the latest research results;
– reduction of the publication period of the article (the article can be cited well before the completion of production work on the issue).
How to cite an Online First article:
When citing an article online first, you must indicate the name of the author, title of the article, name of the journal, year of publication, DOI, and date of access.
