188-191 p. doi.org: 10.22378/he.2018-3-1.188-191 This paper offers a critical outlook on the new book of Kazan scholar, Dr. L.V. Sagitova “The Republic of Tatarstan: Identity Policy and Its Actors”. The author examines how political actors at the subnational level, in the Tatarstan of Republic try to mobilize political, economic, and cultural support for their policy by calling on common values, thereby actively furthering the development of post-communist regional identity. The author also argues that Tatarstan identity is a politically constructed and reconstructed phenomenon.
